reusable wrapping ideas

I love Apartment Therapy's suggestion that Christmas gifts be 'wrapped' in reusable shopping bags. Great! I've recently taken an inventory of my 'stuff' and my 'waste' and have been taking bolder steps to limit both in an attempt to live simply, walk lightly and lesson my ecological footprint. And you know what? It's fun and contagious! Part of the fun has been keeping rolled up reusable shopping bags in my purse. I had no idea it would feel so good to pull them out at the grocery store and use them instead of the disposable, plastic, oil-consuming, landfill-filling ones the store gives out. (Insert shopper peer pressure - it can also make the person behind you feel guilty and thus inspire them to purchase one of the reusable ones available at the till!)

My blogging presence has been non-existent lately, so I'm doing a quick check-in. My life has been so full of wonderful people and events lately that blogging and computers have been the last thing on my mind (this is a very good thing), so I may be missing in action for awhile, but I'll be back again when the inspiration and the free time hits.
In the meantime, I'll leave you with a sneak peak of my new apartment.
Merry Christmas everyone! Happy, lovely, festive December!

Clean Machine
I love whats happening to laundry rooms. No longer dank and in a cold basement (well mine is) they are actually being well thought out spaces. Smaller machines for smaller spaces too. Where would your perfect spot be for your machine? Near the bedrooms seems logical to me, I'm seeing them mounted under kitchen cabs too.

On to Christmas...
Ok, so Thanksgiving is over. Its officially now Christmas. You can't deny it any longer. I will be away from home for the first time ever. I'm not quite sure how much decorating I should be doing. But since thats a month away, I figure I can still pull out stuff. I have noticed that every year I'm doing less and less. I do think less is more, but I also get when people go all out too. I just know I'll have to put it all back in a month!

I saw Across the Universe on the weekend and loved it! Great storyline, great music, great visuals. Just wanted to plug it because I can't stop listening to the soundtrack and thinking about some incredible film scenes. Watch it!

Is Small Space a Style?
9:36 PM

I was thinking about my blog name the other day and wondered if it made sense. Could small spaces be a style? I guess at the time I was just looking for a catchy little name. Maybe small spaces do have a unique style, then again small spaces can vary in style just like large spaces. Hmmm, I think its late and I should go to bed. In my small bedroom. That has style. Somebody stop me.

My friend and fasion designer extraordinaire Kim Cathers (aka kdon) has relaunched her online shop and blog! Despite having to close the doors on her downtown eastside Vancouver shop 'Discollection' a few months ago, Kim is still hard at work at designing and creating super awesome fashion. Check her out at http://discollection.wordpress.com/.

modern cat

Oh. Wow.
I just discovered http://www.moderncat.net/ and am thrilled. Considering that a year ago, I was pretty ambivalent about cats in general, I find it personally amusing that I'm so taken by modern pet furniture. However, I adopted two kittens in the last year and am now a total cat lover (well, I love my cats anyways) and am stoked to see that there are so many options when it comes to giving your furballs what they need (because I refuse to fill my apartment with tacky, carpet-covered climbing trees). Modern Cat is a great source for design-friendly kitty-products. Meow!

I'm so glad design*sponge blogged about Hepper and their super cool pet furniture! As soon as they make it possible to place orders from Canada, I'm totally going to get this Pod Bed for my Fergus and Lola...
It beats the $400 climbing post I saw in a local pet store the other day!

An favorite old political philosophy professor of mine is in town right now so we hung out the other day and talked about all the wonderful things political philosophers talk about, which included a lengthy discussion on architecture and it's link to culture, society, morals and God. He quoted something that I thought was just wonderful by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe:
pass some cheer!

Yay! It's Christmas time at Starbucks again which means, in my world, it's officially time to turn on the Christmas tunes, drink eggnog lattes, eat cranberry bliss bars, mail out Christmas cards and exist in a continual state of jolly goodness and rosy cheeks. *sigh* I love Christmas and I love Starbucks at Christmas.
This year, Starbucks will be passing out cheer cards in their stores that you can use to join a global cheer chain online, spreading digital holiday goodwill. Fun! Hopefully it will inspire the passing on of cheer beyond the web community.

I was in a sporty mood the other day and also feeling a little cold so I biked over to Mountain Equipment Co-op - Canada's favorite outdoor rec shop - with plans to purchase a downy vest or jacket in preparation for winter chills. But...I didn't really like the way their 'sleeping-bag-wear' fit so I mosied around the store envisioning myself scaling mountain walls and ripping through whitewater rapids in a kayak until I got distracted by a very cool clothing line called Mission Playground and ended up being so impressed with their ethic, their design and their fit that I bought the hoodie and long-undie shirt pictured here.
Mission Playground's mission is to contribute to earth conservation by creating awareness through their environmentally conscious and globally mindful designs. I recommend checking them out!

Most of you like the new layout, but it just was not sitting well with me. I agreed with some of you that it was a bit cluttered. So I'm back to the old.....
